Thought it was appropriate to make a new thread so it wouldn’t clog up the screenshots thread. Once a month on the 15th there will be a new image made to track progress as the server continues to age. The size of the images are large, so keep that in mind when you open them in a new tab. Each pixel on the image is equal to 1 block in minecraft. So when we have the entire map uploaded the image will be around 54,000 x 45,000 pixels.
Known bugs/errors: apple leaf blocks render as grey, sand colored snow renders at white, water renders grey. I have no idea why and I’m trying to figure out how to fix it.
Updated with new water, and flyovers to reflect most recent builds. I didn’t include Tol Fuin and Erebor because it makes the map obnoxiously large just to include a small section of land. I already had to scale the image down from 16kx9k pixels just to be able to upload it to imgur.
By the time we get the entire map loaded, the render will probably take 37 hours and require the assistance of NASA. File size will be aproximately the same size as the extended edition of Return of the King remastered 4k blue-ray.
Current size isn’t that bad really, its 226mb fresh out of journeymap. If I put it in GIMP and crop out the transparency and add a background layer it shrinks to 60mb, downsizing gets it to around 56mb.
But it does take like 7 full minutes to save while in MC tho…not to mention the time required to fly around and render everything xD
Since Phe has some very important IRL commitments, I can handle the journeymap renders for now, I guess. I’ll try to have them in on the first of every month.
