[Mac] Java installation problems

how did you install the modpack?: launcher
have you installed Java 8? not sure
when does the problem happen?: _during launch
logs/crash-report**: NA
problem**: When i launch i get the same crash as TSGroot, so i tried to install Java 8 and i cant! everytime i delete everything and download java 8 and follow the instructions i get the following in the terminal when i do java -version:

java version "1.6.0_65"
Java™ SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_65-b14-466.1-11M4716)
Java HotSpot™ 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.65-b04-466.1, mixed mode)

its as if i never installed java 8, please Help!

I managed to delete java 6 and i then installed java 8. But now every time i try to launch the game
i get the following message :

The game is running. Please wait.
No Java runtime present, requesting install.
Process ended with code: 1

its says this, even tho in my System Preferences it says i do have it installed and that i have the latest version of java
