Builder Application: IWOF: REJECTED

Player name: IWOF

How did you find out about us: Im a regular fan of Dukonred1 projects and thats why I am here also

How old are you?: Im 19

Where are you from?: Im from Warsaw, Poland

**Are you in our Discord? Do you understand that you must have Discord running at all times when at your computer, and that you must check the forums every few days?:**yes, but I use it only with people that i know ( I dont want spam or anything )

Why do you want to help with this project?: I really really love medieval themed projects in minecraft and im also pretty good with it.

Which Tolkien-related works have you read, seen or listened to?:I red lots of fantasy book and u know? Pretty much everyone is basen on Tolkiens masterpieces. Of course I red all of them and also watch the movies to find some minecraft inspiration.

Portfolio: http://imgur.com/a/2puhs here is my imgur page. Hope u enjoy!

Plot ID: 11 -6

Are there any styles that you excel at? Any styles which you have difficulty with?:I really like mixing styles but my main style in projects is realistic medieval eges style. Specially farms, villages. In my buildings im trying to show as much realism as i can for example when doing little villege far away from bigger town I try to make it as poor as possible. Im also a kinda specialist on the interiors of the buildings. The only problem is that I was only building on realistic style with a little bit of fantasy so I dont know how my style will find its way on the server but I hope i does. I could also learn your style but this will be hard to done and u know in the medieval ages or tolkien books, there wasnt anything like the same style everyware. It depends on your creativity!

Other relevant skills: Mixing. Textures, Styles pretty much everything i can if i can i try to mix.

Hey IWOF! Great application!

This is a good start! Before you can build on our server we will give you 1 - 3 challenges, depending on how you do.

For your first challenge I want you to ./warp Vilges-bakti and build a house similar to the round stone houses with grass roof. Should be a fisherman family of five. Take a close look at what materials are used for the walls, floor and ceiling. Interior should be quite basic with no fancy stuff. Take your time and post new screenshots on this thread when you are done. Good luck.

Great job! Here is some feedback:

  • The grass should be fully covered with planks. Same goes with all type of buildings, roof tiles should always be covered with a ceiling.
  • The plant on the roof is Antumn reeds and they grows only by rivers and wetlands. Every plant we have on the server is based on plants from our world. That means they have certain rules on where they grow. Just keep this in mind when you soon will build on the server.
  • In many of the first pictures in your application I saw that you are using tree logs for support beams. We have custom textures for beams.

There is also some lore/realism stuff I won’t criticize you for, like the lossoth people wouldn’t have tools made out of iron and so on. But what you just built, you did without a guide. Every WIP projects we work on will provide some kind of guide on how to build it.

All in all, a lot of good stuff here. I will give you one final challange. ‘/warp Arganzulum’ and build a dwarven home for two, with a ropemaker profession. Ask someone to show you the ropemaker in Arganzulum so you can use that for insperation. Also there is a dwarven house guide in the air somewhere at warp point, try to follow the guide as much as possible. When you are done with this last house, I’m sure you will be ready to help us on the server. Good luck and have fun.

Hey again IWOF, great work you have done here, almost built a whole mine. xd ^^

A few points for you:

  • Even in the small rooms, you should always avoid flat ceilings.
  • You use pretty much gray tiles in every room, by mixing it up with other blocks and making some basic patterns, you can make it more interesting.
  • You also used elven cabinet 1 in a dwarven house, most of our blocks are named after what it is used for. Dwarven stuff is only for dwarves and vice versa.
  • I find your lantern use quite odd. Feels also a bit random when every lanteren is hanging from different lengths of chains. Take a close look at how we use laterns, lights and fire to light up our dwarven mines.

This is my complains, but the rest is pretty good! I like your walls and the ropemaker part is cool. Alright, You have improved a lot, and you are showing some skills in our building style. We’re not going to use more time on the builder application process because we think you will be able to build on the server. Therefore I will give you our “Apprentice” rank. Welcome to the team and please read the information below carefully!

Being an Apprentice means you are a part of the project, but not a full Builder yet. You have this rank, so you can learn and understand how we build. We have a high standards and a focus on realism, That means there are things for you to learn. Here’s how to get Builder:

When you build a house in a project and think it is finished, you should post a comment on this application thread with the closest warp and coordinates of your house. Then builders or overseers will comment on this thread and give you fair feedback. When you have made a house on your first try up to our standards, you will be promoted to Builder.

ArdaCraft is a friendly community that explores the freedom to create and build together. However when we are dealing with a enormous project like this there are some guidelines we need to follow to make it work.

Firstly, always name the stuff you build. We have a set of project blocks that we use - you can read about those in the new player guide at ‘/warp spawn’.

Secondly, if you are looking for something to help out with, you can type ‘/warp jobs’. This is where you can find all open jobs like building houses or something similar. You will be provided with instructions on how to get to these projects, and what to build once you get there.

Thirdly, do not be afraid to ask members for help and get to know us. This is a community project and it’s important to be part of the community! Stay active on Discord and the forums. Make sure to let Fornad know who you are on Discord so that he can give you the appropriate rank on there.
